Five Things You Should Know About Norwalk: Feb 24

Brel alive and well and living at the Wilton Playshop this weekend, and four more things you really ought to know.

  1. Curious about kayaking? The Norwalk Islands are said to be a fun place to do it. David Park, author of "Kayaking in and around the Norwalk Islands" will be at The Dock Shop Nautical Boutique, 214 East Ave., in East Norwalk on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Read Patch's coverage of a Park held at the Norwalk Public Library.
  2. If you missed Kimberly Wilson's one-woman show, "A Journey", last weekend (and after reading on her show, really, how could you?), well, you have a chance to redeem yourself Friday or Saturday night or Sunday (no, there's no need to go to each performance—we don't want you to feel that guilty, and let's give others a chance to get seats). The show is playing at the . For more information, contact Wilson at kimberlyw2010@yahoo.com for theater times and reservations.
  3. "Team in Training Bar Night" takes place tonight at . "Join us ... for a free cocktail, appetizers, great company, and a chance to learn more about this unique program."  To RSVP or find out more about "Team in Training," a fund-raising group formed to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, e-mail Liz Robinson at liz.robinson@lls.org.
  4. Does your lover love films? Does he or she love Oscar Night (this Sunday, Feb. 27)? Well, really, one of the great things about Norwalk is that you aren't far from the Avon Theatre in Stamford, where they just so happen to have a great Oscar Night event: Watch a live telecast from the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, vote for the flicks you think will win (and win a prize), eat desserts and chili, wear "festive attire." Meet other fanatics of the cinematic. The cost is a bit steep at $75 for nonmembers, $50 for members (but if you both like movies, consider a membership). For more details and how to register, go here.
  5. Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, a musical revue of Brel's songs, is on stage tonight through Saturday at the Wilton Playshop.
