Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: September 8

Saturday is hazardous waste day, plus more.

  1. Join Mayor Richard A. Moccia for a moment of silence in remembering Norwalkers lost on 9-11. Friday, Sept. 9 at 8:45 a.m., in the Community Room at City Hall.
  2. opens today at the Norwalk Museum. The exhibit seeks to " introduce Museum visitors to the importance of Norwalk’s oldest, continuous business activity; the advances the oystermen and clammers of Norwalk have made to the industry; and the boats, equipment, and the men and companies who work year round to care for their crops."
  3. Follow up the exhibit on Friday night with the opening of the annual Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival. The gates open at 6 p.m Friday and will run until Sunday.
  4. Clean out the garage because it is Norwalk's 2011 Household Hazardous Waste Day this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Norwalk High School. Please have your drivers license or vehicle registration with you, no commercial waste. Rain or Shine.
  5. Volunteers needed! "Pursue your interest in marine animals – and share your knowledge and enthusiasm with others – by becoming a member of the volunteer staff at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk." Interviews will be held on Tuesday, September 20 and Thursday, September 22 at 7 p.m. You must be 15 years old or older to volunteer. To register for an interview or for more information, call the Aquarium at (203) 852-0700, ext. 2225, or e-mail volunteers@maritimeaquarium.org.
