Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: September 19

The Norwalk Boat Show is coming on Thursday; "Alpha" course starts tomorrow; register now for creative writing class for kids; SoNo RR station will get some art; and do you recognize that guy?

  1. If you've seen the man with the baseball cap in the picture attached to this article, please call Norwalk police. The picture is from Friday's late-morning , 184 Main St., and police say this is the suspect. The man was last seen walking on Ohio Avenue. He's described as black, five feet, 6-8 inches in height, with a thin build, a scruffy beard and an afro hair style. He was wearing a red baseball cap with a distinctive design, sunglasses, a hoodie (hooded sweatshirt) with a zipper, baggy blue jeans, black gloves and white sneakers.   2. is beginning a creative writing program for children called "KID LIT." The program is designed for ages 8 - 13 and will take place on Saturday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with a class limit of 8 children. Please register for this event. The program "team" will include Jon Rothenberg and his son Robbie who writes under the name, Robert Jon Hemingway as he is the great-grandson of Ernest Hemingway. Also on the team are Phyllis Asher, a retired Brookside School teacher and Stan Siegel, East Norwalk Library Executive Director.
  3. The and Norwalk resident, author and speaker John B. Donovan will host a on "exploring the meaning of life." The Christian course will take place on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. beginning tomorrow, Sept. 20, and will run for 10 weeks. Dinner will be provided each week at 6:30, followed by a short video and small group discussions. 
  4. Four artists will create permanent art at the . The City of Norwalk Parking Authority , one of which has roots here,Norwalk native Duvian Montoya of Fairfield will create art for the tunnel that connects the east and westbound side. Other chosen artists are David Boyajian of New Fairfield, Matt Rink of Redding and Vincent Appel of New York City.
  5. The is dead ahead! It will drop anchor Thursday at 10 a.m. at and will run until Sunday - open until 6 p.m. daily. Some highlights this year are Josh Harris from Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch!, Abby Sunderland who set out on a quest to become the youngest solo sailor ever to circumnavigate the globe and the ever fun and popular Kids Cove. $14 adults, 15 and younger are free.
