Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: May 6

Hospital's New Menu, Electrical Safety, Foreclosure Help, Triathlon Winner and Tony Award Nominee.

  1. Congratulations to Eneas Freyre of Norwalk for winning the national championship for his age group during the USA Triathlon 2011 Duathlon National Championship on Saturday, April 30. With a time of 1 hour, 27 minutes and three seconds on the 5-kilometer course, he earned a spot on Team USA for the 2011 ITU Short Course Duathlon World Championships in Gijon, Spain.
  2. May is National Electrical Safety Month. Here is another safety tip from Connecticut Light & Power: "Be sure all electrical equipment for your swimming pool is grounded properly.  If you're installing a pool, have it inspected by your town's electrical inspector when the job is completed. A ground fault circuit interrupter should be installed on your pool's electrical equipment."
  3. The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority announced that a regional Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program Housing Fair will be held Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the City Hall Annex in Bridgeport.The fair will allow for face-to-face inquiries about the program and is free and open to any state homeowner.
  4. is introducing a new menu ─ a Mediterranean Diet plan full of locally grown produce, whole grains, beans and fish are only a few of the differences you will notice ─ Norwalk is the first hospital in the state to implement this kind of menu. The plan is in effect for employees at the moment but will be introduced to patients beginnig later this month.
  5. Congratulations to Norwalk native Forrest McClendon, who has been nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Broadway musical, "The Scottsboro Boys." He is nominated in the category off Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical.
