Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: May 2

Record Breaking Fundraiser, Veterans Day, Parents Workshop, Helpful Phone App and Honored Major.

  1. The fundraiser "Cirque de la Mer" raised a record breaking $812,000. These funds will be used to help schools in the tri-state area that otherwise would not have had the funds to make the Aquarium’s educational programs available to their students.
  2. Since Friday, flags have been flying at half-staff in Connecticut in honor of Major Raymond G. Estelle II of New Haven. He was killed in action in Afghanistan on April 21.
  3. Norwalk's will reconsider their decision to eliminate Veterans Day as a school holiday after Veterans and parents voiced concerns. Patch will keep you posted on the final outcome.
  4. Join Tuesday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. for a Parent Workshop, "How to be the Best Parent You Can Be" with Dr. Rudy Rosado.
  5. Here is a new phone app that is worth the download. The Center for Youth Leadership, Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Institute for Community Research, and Connecticut's Child Advocate have created this app to teach teens about dating violence.
