Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: May 19

Norwalk River Vally Trail, ADD, SoNo Stroll, Norwalk Hospital Medicine Series and Chess Tournament.

  1. The 3rd Annual SoNo Stroll will be held on Wednesday, June 8. New Canaan residents, Brenda McKenna and Mary Beth Fessler, are busy preparing for the event ─ a benefit for The Human Services Council ─ which provides free medical and mental healthcare to students who are injured or sick, to counseling abused children and their families. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and live silent auction at , followed by dinner at one of the fine participating SoNo restaurants including: , Black Bear Saloon, , , Chocopologie, Coromandel, , Jeff’s Cuisine, , , , , Red Lulu, and .
  2. The Norwalk River Watershed Association will host a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of a new information kiosk for the Norwalk River Valley Trail in Mathews Park on Wednesday, June 1 at 10 a.m. The kiosk includes trail maps of the region that will be helpful and interesting to trail users. The kiosk was funded in part by a grant from REI awarded to the NRWA for improvements and maintenance of the trail. The construction and installation was donated by the Norwalk Department of Recreation and Parks.
  3. Join on Wednesday, May 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brain Balance Achievment Center, 15 Cross St., as he speaks to parents during his From ADD to Autism lecture. He will discuss Neurobehavioral Disorders and the Brain Balance Program─a drug free approach for those with ADHD, OCD, Autism, Asperger's, Tourette Syndrome, Dyslexia, and learning disabilities.
  4. Tuesday,  May 24 at 7 p.m. Medicine 2011 Series continues with a lecture about ─ common causes of back pain and effective treatments that are available non-surgically and through minimally invasive surgical procedures. Guest speakers will include Dr. Scott P. Sanderson, neurosurgeon with Neurosurgical Associates of Southwestern Connecticut and Dr. Robert L. Brady, orthopaedic surgeon with Coastal Orthopaedics.
  5. Checkmate! The Chess Club of Fairfield County will host the on Sunday, May 29 at 710 West Avenue, Norwalk.
