Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: May 18

Community Conversations, Verizon 4G, Gala, Miniatures and I-95 Ramp Closed.

  1. You can't get there from here ─ well at least not until July 14. The entrance ramp for I-95 south/U.S. Route 7 from West Avenue in Norwalk has been closed by the state in order to do work on the  entrances for I-95 southbound and Route 7.
  2. will celebrate their 14th anniversary during an Annual Gala and Silent Auction on Saturday, May 21 at Dolce Hotel from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The evening will feature cocktails, dinner, a silent auction and end with a live auction, led by State Rep. Larry Cafero. Proceeds will benefit student enrichment programs, class trips and technology purchases.
  3. Can you hear me now? Verizon Wireless’ 4G Long Term Evolution network launches May 19. Customers in over 30 Connecticut towns ─ including Norwalk ─ will be able to surf the web, download files, share music and photos up to 10 times faster than before.
  4. The is hosting a public screening and discussion series as part of their Community Conversations on Education-Based Films series. The screenings begin with Race to Nowhere on May 21 and Two Million Minutes on June 11. Guest speakers will include Dr. Susan Marks, Superintendent of Norwalk Public Schools; Emiley Aguilar, Education Parent Advocate; Lauriston Avery, Five Mile River Nursery School Director; Lauren Rosato, Norwalk Education Foundation President and Anita Schmidt, Norwalk Branch NAACP President.
  5. ─ CDHM The Miniature Way ─ Southern Connecticut Spring Show & Sale will be held May 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at the Double Tree Hotel. Offered during the show will be artisan-made original miniatures of handmade dolls, dollhouses, fairies, foods, furniture, and other miniatures and collectibles.

Correction: Item 1 originally stated that the purpose of the ramp closure was to make separate entrances for Route 7 and I-95 northbound. We meant to say I-95 southbound, which has shared that ramp. We apologize for the error.
