Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: June 7

Rev. Al Sharpton is in town and it's not for SoNo Restaurant Week or any of these other upcoming Norwalk events.

  1. Eat light this week because SoNo Restaurant Week begins Sunday, June 12 and ends Friday, June 17. Participating restaurants are  said to be , , , , , , , , , Red Lulu, , , and .

  3. Join the 2011 Catholic Charities Aetna Golf Classic on Monday, June 13 at . Check in begins at 10:30 a.m. The event will include a buffet lunch, cocktail dinner, awards and silent auction all to benefit Catholic Charities which is "a leading provider of Senior Services, Case Management & Behavioral Health Programs, Women's Children's Services, and Life Skills/Transitional Services throughout the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport. The Norwalk Medical Group Division of Oncology and Hematology has been "recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology for meeting the highest standards for quality cancer care. They are the first oncology practice in Connecticut to receive this rigorous certification."
  5. Get ready for the news satellite trucks to park on Belden Avenue again, and then at 382 Highland Ave. Al Sharpton will be in town today, speaking at the NAACP "Equal Education for All Rally" at 6 p.m. at Brookside Elementary School. The same school at which Tanya McDowell enrolled her son last September, resulting in her later arrest. She appears in state Superior Court in Norwalk this morning. As per Rachel Noerdlinger, Executive Vice President of Communications, National Action Network, "Contrary to several reports, National Action Network, nor Rev. Sharpton, are coming to Connecticut in response to the case of Tanya McDowell because we have not investigated or looked into the matter extensively. We will receive information from the state NAACP pertaining their involvement but until we review it, Rev. Sharpton, nor any other NAN official will address this case without having full knowledge of the particulars."
