Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: June 29

Garbage and recycling weekend schedule and much more.

  1. What will be picked up this weekend? There will be no garbage pick up on July 4, instead it will be picked up on July 5. Recycling that is normally picked up on Mondays will be picked up Saturday, July 9. The transfer station and yard waste site will be closed on July 4 and re-open July 5.
  2. There is a Special Meeting tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Norwalk Museum at 41 North Main Street in SoNo. Chairman Peter Bondi says the only thing actually "special" about the meeting is that it's been postponed from it's usual time (which would have been a "regular" meeting). The biggest item on the agenda, he said is a discussion on how to handle roof leaks at the .
  3. The YMCA is accepting donations for their tag sale to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Satuday. You can drop off donations Thursday at the front desk - or early Friday and Saturday - the money raised will go toward purchasing newer Spinners for the Spinning program.
  4. This Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will put on display quilts made by Norwalk children from the 1970s to today as part of the . Admission is $10-$12. The exhibit will run through October.
  5. In a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week at the on 16 River St., Mayor Richard A. Moccia cut the ribbon with a chef's knife (see attached photo).
