Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: June 22

A Norwalker heads to the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Greece, plus much more.

  1. Today is the last day of school and there is a two-hour-early dismissal for all Norwalk public schools. The exceptions are 's last day of school which is tomorrow June 23 with dismissal at 12:25 p.m. will dismiss today at 11:40 a.m. with graduation commencements begining at 6 p.m.
  2. Boaters beware and be safe!"The CT DEP announced that Environmental Conservation Police Marine law enforcement officers will participate in Operation Dry Water and will be out in force June 24-26 looking for boaters with a Blood Alcohol Content exceeding the state limit of .08%. Operation Dry Water will include state wide increased patrols and checkpoints, as well as boater education. Impaired boaters can expect penalties to be severe. In Connecticut they include fines, jail and loss of boating privileges."
  3. It's time to give. American Red Cross will host a Blood Drive today from 1 to 5:45 p.m. in the Community Room at . To schedule an appointment please call 800-733-2767.
  4. Who wants to get sketchy? Tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. Norwalk Arts Commission and are sponsoring a Sketchy Event Art Party at 136 Washington Street, SoNo. the event will include a draw-a-thon, a public arts project reception, light food and refreshments. 
  5. Norwalk's own Kera Connolly will be competing with her partner, Frank Smurlo of Old Greenwich, in sailing during the Special Olympics World Summer Games June 25 - July 4 in Athens, Greece. A volunteer for Special Olympics Connecticut for over 18 years, Connolly has also been the  beneficiary of the Unsung Hero Award. (See .)
