Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: July 4

Happy 4th of July!

  1. Let's not forget what Independance Day is all about. The men and women who have put their lives on the line for us. The will be collecting donations to "benefit  , a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans and returning soldiers make the very difficult transition between military and civilian life." Let's give back this holiday!
  2. Join the for their today. The festivities begin at noon with two events, an Open House at and a Revolutionary War tour of historic Cemetery. Continue from there at 1:30 p.m. to the Historic Norwalk Green - Let Freedom Ring! National Bell Ringing Ceremony and at 2:15 p.m. loop back around to the Town House Museum program back at .
  3. Active.com has put together a very cool Virtual Run for the 4th of July. "You are free to run with other runners across the USA in a celebration of Independence Day. Dedicate your run to someone special and post it on our site. Create your own running route and run any time on July 4th. We will post your special message, your name, city, state and other information onto our event site runday.com. You'll automatically be registered for World Run Day on November 6, 2011 and get mailed our collectible event shirt." 
  4. The Norwalk/Darien seventh annual will begin at 10:30 a.m. today at Goodwives Shopping Center in Darien. At 10 a.m. Mary Ann Hall's Music for Children will entertain the partcipants as they eagerly await the beginning of the parade. "Decorate yourself and your non-motorized vehicle and join an authentic fife & drum band to parade down the Post Road to Tilley Pond Park in Darien. Join us in the park for live music by The Little Maestros and local food and ice cream vendors." This event is Free but donations will be gratefully accepted in the park which will benefit the community service programs of the YWCA.
  5. Are you a book worm? Do you spend a fair amount of time at the library? Then this is great news for you! The is holding a summer reading program for adults. Yup you heard right, adults. The program will run from July 6 - August 27. Just read a book tell the library what you read and in a detailed sentence or two tell them what you thought. They will then post the reviews for everyone to enjoy and you'll be entered into their weekly raffle drawing for fun prizes.
