Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: July 18

Glow in the dark dinosaurs today only, plus more.

  1. The Statewide Reapportionment Committee is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers in Norwalk , 125 East Ave. The committee, which will draw up boundaries for congressional and state Senate and House of Representatives seats (based on the 2010 U.S. Census), is only scheduled to meet this one time in this part of the state.
  2. The Day Street Community Health Center/Calvary Baptist Church Farmer's Market (which must be the longest name of a farmer's market ... anywhere) takes place today from 3 to 6 p.m. and every Monday at that time in the parking lot of Calvary Baptist Church, 21 Concord St. It's sponsored by the church and  health center.   3. Stamford Center for the Arts presents “A Glow-in-the-Dark Dinosaur Adventure” features electroluminescent crayon-like creatures that light up the night in a heart rending tale of a scientist, Professor Henslow and his creation, Darwin the Dinosaur. In Darwin’s adventures he encounters many types of creatures – Verla, the gangly ostrich; Peche, the beautiful fish; Brutus, the red dinosaur – and he learns something new about the world around him. Truly unique & visually dazzling, the show has been universally praised for its cutting edge blend of puppetry, technology and dance." Tickets are $5. Performances are 10 a.m. and noon.
  4. New Canaan Nature Center hosts the “3rd Annual Nature-Palooza” Family Concert & Campfire Saturday, July 23 from 4 - 7:30 p.m. Bands gearing to perform are Reggae Culture, the School of Rock House Band, Matt Black and John Moses. Bring a picnic and beverages or you can purchase food and ice cream at the event. The concert will be followed by a marshmallow roast around the campfire. $5 for Nature Center members and $8 for non-members - children under 2 are free.
  5. The new Public Marine-Biology Program at the this Saturday is Marine World Magnified. "Peer through hand lenses and microscopes to learn about some of the tiny creatures found in our local waters." Programs are at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. 90 minute run time. Appropriate for ages 9 and up.  $5 per person.
