Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: July 11

A dinner cruise to support the literacy project of South Norwalk and Polio Eradication, plus much more.

  1. What's better than Johnny Depp on the big screen? Johnny Depp on an IMAX six-story screen. This Friday “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” opens at . Tickets for the IMAX Theater are $11.50 for adults, $10.50 for seniors 65+ and $9.50 for children 2-12. Members receive $1 discounts. Tickets can be purchased in advance on their website.
  2. is doing its part to help anyone looking for a job put their best foot forward. Library staff member, Brian Stone, will host a much needed program "Getting a Job" on Thursday, July 14 at 3 p.m. in the Chess Room. Registration is required and space is limited to 20. "The program will cover writing a resume, cover letters, thank you notes, and acceptance letters.  In addition, a talk on how to handle an interview is included. In addition we will discuss job searching and how to use the library’s various job databases."
  3. Garden writer and contributor to the New York Times, invites you to explore with her some enchanting gardens of Connecticut, some which are private. She will also discuss the "pitfalls, and challenges of gardening in Connecticut." The lecture will take place at at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Wednesday.
  4. This Thursday will hold it's annual dinner cruise aboard the Island Belle from 6 to 10 p.m. Departing from , the cruise will play host to a live band featuring Adam Currie and a silent auction with prizes ranging from restaurant gift certificates to Delta Sky 360 Suite Yankee tickets. 100% of the proceeds go to support the literacy project of South Norwalk and Polio Eradication.
  5. It's your last week to catch the Roberto Dutesco Art Show, , at the new Samuel Owen Gallery in Greenwich. The show will be on display through Sunday, July 17. "Approximately 20 to 30 pieces of photographic study of Sable Island, Nova Scotia will be on exhibit, featuring his captures of the location’s wild horses and uninhabited landscapes. Pieces will also be available for sale after the show runs." Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 4 p.m.
