Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: August 16

Former Knicks star will be at the Summer reading grand finale, plus more.

  1. From Aug. 20 through Sept. 17 the Silvermine School of Art will place on display an Art Faculty Exhibition which will "showcase the current works of the distinguished artist/teachers of the Silvermine School of Art." A public opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All art work will be for sale.
  2. The Free continues Thursday night from 5 to 8 p.m. at SoNo Park 50 Washington Street with the calypso and soca drum sounds of Reggae Culture. Free BBQ and beverages. Get on up and move your feat to the beat!
  3. The Third Annual Click It for Cassie Softball Tournament will be held at , Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. "The Click It for Cassie Foundation brings awareness of the importance of wearing seatbelts to drivers, especially teens, as statistics show that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 15 and 34."
  4. The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will present Tidal Connections. The exhibition opening Saturday, Aug. 20 through Thursday, Sept. 29 will be showcasing the works of twelve Fairfield County artists from the Wilson Avenue Loft in SoNo.
  5. Former Knicks basketball star John Starks will read to the children and sign autographs on Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at the grand finale of the South Norwalk Library Summer Reading Program. Participants will also receive book giveaways, raffles, T-shirts and an end of summer pizza party.
