Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: August 15

Get your tickets now for The Battle of The Bands at Stepping Stones, plus more.

  1. This Wednesday the Summer Concert Series at Calf Pasture Beach continues with . Bring some fine food, beverages and comfortable seats as you gather with some "Strangers in the Night" and enjoy the unforgettable songs of one of the most memorable singers of the past. Show begins at 7 p.m., don't forget the bug spray!
  2. Join the on Saturday, August 20 for a Behind the Scenes tour. "Enjoy a special backstage look at how the sharks, seals, river otters and hundreds of other aquatic species are kept happy, healthy and well-fed." The event begins at 8:15 a.m. and is $32.50 for non members - $22.50 for Aquarium members - and includes Aquarium admission at 10 a.m. Space is limited, so please register.
  3. From August 15 through August 20 the - the thrift shop on 5 Isaacs Street - operated by the Woman's Board of Norwalk Hospital, will be holding a store wide half-price sale on all items including clothing, household items, books, jewelry, antiques and more.  Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Proceeds of the Treasure House benefit patient care services at Norwalk Hospital.
  4. Wednesday get ready to rock with the areas best up and coming bands as they go head to head in "Battle of The Bands" at Stepping Stones. The winning band will receive Studio time at Carriage House in Stamford, a photo shoot with Venture Photography, and a voice lesson with Melissa Mulligan at Melissa Mulligan Vocal Studio. Tickets are $10 in advance adn $12 at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. the rockin' gets rollin' at 7 p.m.
  5. Rowayton Civic Association Arthur J. Ladrigan Swim Races and Family Fun Day will be Sunday, August 28 at Bayley Beach. The Lighthouse Race is a one-mile swim from Green’s Ledge Lighthouse to shore followed by the Buoy Race - a swim to the buoy and back to shore. To end the races are the children’s swim races. "After the awards ceremony, all are invited to join in the traditional beach games which include a tug-of-war, a pie-eating contest and a treasure hunt." The festivities begin at 8:30 a.m.
