Five Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: April 29

Arbor Day, Red Apple Awards, Holocaust Commemoration, Auto Show and Drug "Take-Back"

  1. Just in time for Arbor Day, has earned—for the seventh year—national recognition for its commitment to urban forestry from the Arbor Day Foundation. Norwalk also received the Tree City USA Growth Award for advancement in its community forestry program. This includes environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in a Tree City USA community.
  2. The recipients of this year's Red Apple Awards were The Erdmann family of New Canaan and Leonard Tannenbaum, CEO of Fifth Street Finance Corp. The awards—presented last night during “Cirque de la Mer,” the Aquarium’s annual fund-raising dinner—honor companies, organizations and individuals who share concern for the natural world and environmental education. Proceeds from this event help support The Maritime Aquarium’s Red Apple Fund for Student Enrichment.
  3. The 38th Annual Gateway Antique Auto Club Auto Show will be held Sunday, May 1 at . Gates open at 8:00 a.m. and prizes are awarded at 3:00 p.m.
  4. Don't forget that tomorrow is the nationwide Prescription Drug “Take-Back” Day. The D.E.A. will be collecting potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at from 10 to 2 p.m. This is a free, no-questions-asked service for the public.
  5. Sunday is Holocaust Remembrance Day and the UJA/Federation of Westport, Weston, Wilton and Norwalk will hold a free commemoration open to the entire community. It will take place at 7 p.m. at the Conservative Synagogue located at 30 Hillspoint Rd. in Westport.
