First Aid for Fido

A Shelton kennel club recently hosted a "First Aid for Canines" seminar, and here's what it looked like.

Trap Falls Kennel Club located at 5 Shelton Lake Rd. hosted a "First Aid for Canines" seminar on Tuesday night. Guest speaker Susan Block, D.V.M. says "Safety is at the top of the list and is a number one."

Laura Wells, president of the kennel club, recommends you always carry a first aid kit, whether you are hiking or on vacation or even at the beach.

Dr. Block says these are the essentials for your kit: Vet and emergency clinic contact info. Animal poison center (888.426.4435), gauze, disposable gloves, nonstick bandages, cotton, waterproof bandage material, medical tape,flashlight, tweezers, triple antibiotic cream and a digital fever thermometer.

For heatstroke, place wet, cool towels over your pet (do not cool pet temp below 103 degrees) and transport ASAP to your vet.

Trap Falls Kennel Club will also be presenting "Applause for Paws," an AKS Responsible Dog Ownership Day on Saturday, September 10 at The Shelton Riverwalk.
