Daylight Saving Time: Turn Your Clocks Back

At 2 a.m. Sunday, we gain an hour. Enjoy the extra rest!

On Nov. 6 at 2 a.m., the United States officially switches off daylight saving time and reverts to standard time, giving us an extra hour to sleep in.

DST kicked off March 13 this year. What used to begin on the first Sunday in April and end the last Sunday in October has slowly been extended to make for a longer period of daylight saving time each year.

Fire departments use the change over twice a year to remind everyone to use the occasion to check smoke detector batteries. It is particularly important at this time of year in light of the upcoming holiday season. Winter activities — Christmas tree lights especially — tend to increase the likelihood of house fires.
