Catholic Bishop Lori Being Considered for Baltimore Archbishop

Bishop William E. Lori has been the leader of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport since 2001.

Bishop William E. Lori, leader of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport, is reportedly being considered for a vacant archbishop's post in Baltimore, according to the Connecticut Post.

Sixty-year-old Lori, who has been the diocese's leader since 2001, is well-known for his role in helping to draft the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, which addressed allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy. He's also been recognized for his conservative views on same-sex marriage and religious liberty.

According to the Post, The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Baltimore currently serves just under 550,000 Catholics who attend approximately 100 churches. Archbishop Edwin F. O'Brien left for Rome in August after Pope Benedict XVI promoted him to pro-grand master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
