5 Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: April 14

Tax Tips, Recalls, Fundraiser, Men in Blue and an Abundance of Trout

  1. Tomorrow is April 15—Tax Day. The IRS is offering for taxpayers still working on their tax returns.
  2. The city has two new police officers to walk the beat. Mayor Richard Moccia administered the oath of office Tuesday morning to
    Gabriel DeMott and Kevin Shoenthal. The two will attend the Connecticut Police Academy before returning to complete their field training later this year.
  3. Hook, line and sinker... opening day of trout fishing season arrives Saturday, April 16 and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has all eleven of the Trout Parks, state’s rivers, streams, lakes and ponds stocked and ready. Both the Angler’s Guide and the online licensing system can be accessed on the DEP website here.
  4. The Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers to a voluntary of girl’s tops due to potential lead hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with My Michelle, of New York, NY announced a voluntary recall of about 90,000 of the tops, because jewelry and decorative trim attached to the garments contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
  5. The and ’s Whittingham Cancer Center are teaming up to help local residents with cancer. On Wednesday, April 20, the Brewhouse will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales to the Walk & Sally’s Run which raises funds for patient care initiatives, innovative therapies, research, clinical trials and extensive support services. The 3K walk and 5K run will take place on Saturday, May 14 at in Norwalk.
