Norwalk-Village Green Chapter DAR Christmas Luncheon to be Held December 7 at Oak Hills Restaurant

The Norwalk-Village Green Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold their December meeting during their annual Christmas Luncheon this Saturday, December 7, at Oak Hills Restaurant.

Members and invited guests will gather for a festive holiday lunch, a brief meeting and a presentation from guest speaker Mr. Walter D. Matis. Mr. Matis is the Program and Volunteer Coordinator at the Fairfield Museum and History Center.  He runs the Colonial Kids Summer Camp along with special events and educational activities.  Mr. Matis is active as a re-enactor and participates in events such as the Haunted History Tour in Fairfield and the Burning of Fairfield Tour.  He has also conducted tours of the Bronson Windmill in Fairfield.

Each year the Norwalk-Village Green Chapter DAR collects goods for veterans or active members of the military at their Christmas Luncheon.  This year donations will be going to Homes for the Brave, a 42-bed transitional living facility located in Bridgeport, CT.  Homes for the Brave serves homeless veterans and non-veterans.  Since 2011 Homes for the Brave has also been serving female homeless veterans and their children through Female Soldiers:  Forgotten Heroes.  For more information about Homes for the Brave or to find out how you too can make donations, visit http://www.homesforthebrave.org/.  The organizations wish list can be found at http://www.homesforthebrave.org/support-us/wish-list/.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation's children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 175,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations.
