"Giving Tuesday" and Giving Every Day
Giving Tuesday is here: “We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals….Wouldn’t it be great to have a day for giving back?” Besides Save the Children, are there any Lower Fairfield County charities promoting this national day of giving campaign by creating their own Partner Pages to be featured on the #GivingTuesday website? Here are come of the charities promoted by the Gates Foundation that are advancing this day. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we now have #GivingTuesday. This is a chance for your charity (maybe next year) to engage your constituency in a way that’s meaningful to you and that can be shared with all of your (and your individual constituency's) networks.
Something vital to consider every day is what the World Bank just issued: this 84-page report on the coming apocalypse, if the continued failure to respond aggressively to climate change persists. A 4°C world is likely to be one in which communities, cities and countries would experience severe disruptions, damage, and dislocation, with many of these risks spread unequally. It is likely that the poor will suffer most and the global community could become more fractured, and unequal than today.

Funding Opportunities
Haymarket People’s Fund: Grants from $3,000-$12,000 will be awarded in New England to grassroots social change organizations committed to social justice. Applications should address the root causes of injustice. Grants will fund start up and emerging organizations as well as groups that have a long history of grassroots organizing. Deadline: 12/5/12

Wounded Warrior Project: Grants ranging from $5,000 to $250,000 will be awarded for programs that enhance the lives of wounded veterans. Funds are intended for programmatic activities aimed at improving mental health and wellness, exposing veterans to new opportunities for physical fitness and activity, connecting veterans with their peers and communities, and enhancing veterans' economic empowerment and independence. Deadline for Letter of Interest: 12/10/12
