National law firm Wilson Elser has promoted Stephen P. Brown to deputy regional managing partner of its Connecticut offices. The firm has had a Stamford office since 2004 and just last month opened an office in Hartford.
As deputy regional managing partner, Mr. Brown will work closely with Connecticut Regional Managing Partner Brian Del Gatto on the day-to-day operations of the two offices in the region.
His immediate focus will be on helping to grow the litigation practice in Hartford, an office the firm opened to support its burgeoning Government Affairs practice and to better service the firm’s large number of insurance company clients.
“The Connecticut-based Government Affairs practice has nearly quadrupled in size since it launched in 2011 when David Rose, the leader of that practice, joined the firm,” shared Mr. Del Gatto. “Now with Steve officially in this leadership position, we will continue to drive both the Government Affairs and litigation practices throughout Connecticut and, with our Boston office, all of New England.”
Mr. Brown has a diverse civil litigation practice representing clients in a variety of industries in state and federal courts in Connecticut and across the country.
During his career, he has represented and advised clients in litigation matters involving a wide array of subject matter areas and substantive legal issues. These include insurance coverage, professional liability, employment issues, general liability, medical malpractice, transportation, construction, and environmental and toxic tort matters.
He is admitted to practice in both Connecticut and New York, and is active in bar associations in both states including the Connecticut State Bar Association, Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association, and the Westchester/Fairfield American Corporate Counsel.
He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), and is a board member at large of the Westchester/Fairfield chapter of the Risk Management Society (RIMS).
He recently became a certified instructor of the Insurance Trust Academy, enabling him to teach continuing education classes to agents and brokers as well as others in the insurance industry.
Mr. Brown earned his J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law, J.D. (1996) and his B.A. from University at Albany (1992).
