The Human Services Council hires Ann McCarthy as Director of Development and Communications

The Human Services Council is excited to announce Ann McCarthy as the new Director of Development and Communications.  Ann has over 20 years of experience in marketing, public relations, and strategic planning, in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.  She holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University and has also worked in marketing and public relations for companies such as Hachette Book Group, John Wiley & Sons and Oxford University Press.  Her broad-based background will be a huge asset to help drive the Human Services Council’s fundraising events as well as spearhead strategic marketing goals.  Anthony DiLauro, the Executive Director says, “We are thrilled to welcome Ann to our team.  Her wealth of experience in communications and marketing will help the Human Services Council effectively convey the community’s needs, our progress on providing critical services and ways in which people in the area can help the Human Services Council carry out its mission.”

McCarthy previously served as the Managing Director of The Southfield Center for Development, a Darien-based multidisciplinary practice dedicated to maximizing the potential of children with learning, emotional, and behavioral needs. She was responsible for day-to-day operations, marketing/community outreach, and strategic planning.

Her prior speaking engagements included the Conference of the Council of Special Education Attorneys & Advocates (COPAA), the Association of School Nurses in Connecticut, SPED*NET Wilton, Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, and the School Health Conference of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  In 2009, Ann completed The Foundation Center’s Grantseeker Training Institute program and in her role as consultant to The Pilot House (a non-profit organization in Fairfield, CT), she secured funding from multiple sources, including a grant from the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.
