Norwalk's Newest Restaurant Opens In Hotel Zero Degrees

Medierraneo, which sits atop a waterfall on the Norwalk River in the “Merritt 7 Business District,” is located on the first floor of Hotel Zero Degrees on Route 7 in Norwalk.

While there is something on the menu for everyone at Mediterraneo, Executive Chef Albert DeAngelis’ menu features fresh, succulent, yet sustainable seafood, in addition to a few “creative twists on Italian favorites.”

DeAngelis, who worked in France and New York City before coming to Connecticut, said he believes that Mediterraneo's health conciencious menu will be popular among the many businesses in the business district just north of the Merritt Parkway.

“For the quality of the food and the quality of the ingredients, it is going to be a really good value. I am not into tiny portions. You’ll be getting a 12 ounce steak and a seven ounce piece of fish,” said DeAngelis, who oversees all six of the restaurants within the Hospitality Group family.

Auroa in Rye, New York, Acqua in WestportSole in New CanaanTerra in Greenwich and Mediterraneao in Greenwich are all operated by the Hospitaliy Group, which is owned by Ramze Zakka, who resides in Greenwich. Mediterraneo's Greenwich location has been situated on the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Grigg Street since 1995.

Mediterraneo is approachable by a wide variety of people. While the menu is very “fish heavy,” the restaurant appeals to families as well, DeAngelis said.

“We have pizza and pasta for the kids,” he said. “In Fairfield County, you can’t be so specialized that you would not consider brining your parents or your kids here.”

Mediterraneo has seating for 120, with an addition 20 seats in the bar area. The restaurant, which officially opened on Monday night, will be open for dinner this week and will begin serving lunch next week. Lunch will be from 12 – 2:30 p.m., with a mid-day menu being served from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5:30 – 10 p.m. Sunday – Thursday and 5:30 – 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
