July jobs figures showed a rise in unemployment throughout Connecticut, and Norwalk was not spared in the bad news. The town's unemployment rate has increased for the fourth month in a row and slightly outpaces the city's labor force growth.
“The phrase ‘worst economic downturn since the Great Depression’ is used so often, we’ve become immune to the words. But they’re true. So, it should come as a surprise to no one that pulling the country and our state out of that downturn is hard. Really hard,” said . “But let me be clear: we are making progress, and I have every confidence we’ll continue to make progress.”
In Connecticut, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 8.5 percent and the national rate is 8.3 percent.
