The report looks at mortality and complication rates across 27 different medical procedures and diagnoses at nonfederal hospitals across the US. It draws its conclusions from 40 million hospitalization records obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Data was analyzed over a three-year period from 2008 to 2010.

Earlier this year, Norwalk Hospital received HealthGrades’ “Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award,” given to hospitals that rate in the top five percent nationally. It was reportedly the second year in a row the hospital won the award. Further, it was the only hospital in Fairfield County to receive the award for 2011.
