Norwalk and Westport Fishing Companies Form Partnership

South Norwalk-based Cheeky Fly Fishing and Westport Outfitters have formed a strategic partnership, the two businesses announced Tuesday.

Cheeky Fly Fishing, which builds and sells reels and other fishing products, recently moved from Boston to Elizabeth Street in South Norwalk to better cater to its Tri-State area customer base, according to co-founder and CEO Scott Caras. And the partnership with Westport Outfitters helps with plan.

“Prior to our move, we had followed local shops in the area and were really impressed with how Westport Outfitters catered to its customer base with a true sense of customer service, access to information about the local fishing scene and beyond and their strong social media presence,” said Caras in a statement.

Eric Johnson, owner of Riverside Avenue-based Westport Outfitters, was also aware of Cheeky Fly Fishing and is also excited by the partnership. The retail store sells a host of fishing products.

“As our relationship evolves, we hope to play a larger role in providing feedback about their products based on our own personal experience,” said Johnson in a statement. “Cheeky is big enough to compete with more established manufacturers, but much more nimble and responsive when it comes to working with its customers and innovating within the fly fishing industry.

To promote the new partnership, any Cheeky Reel bought from Westport Outfitters will receive full backing, and the purchaser will also receive a free Cheeky Pro cap.

The two companies will also host a kickoff event at Westport Outfitters on Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m., which will include special deals, a BBQ and prizes. Westport Outfitters is located at 609 Riverside Ave. in Westport.
