Metro SwimShop Sidestrokes to Norwalk

Landlord difficulties in Westport induce the shop owners to make landfall on Norwalk's Westport Avenue.

Metro SwimShop, a Westport vendor of swim racing gear and other aquatic goods,  is diving into Norwalk and will be setting up shop at 181 Westport Ave., not far from Stew Leonard's.

The specialty store sells swim racing gear and other aquatic goods, said Mary Cleveland, store manager. Since the store's items are so unique, shoppers come from all over the state to peruse Metro SwimShop’s wares, she said.

Other stores that have immigrated to Norwalk from Westport in the past include Galaxy Cookies and Puppies of Westport.

Metro SwimShop isn't exactly wet behind the ears—it's been in business for about 20 years on Church lane in downtown Westport. The building at 22 Church Lane was sold and the new owners asked them to leave, Cleveland said.

“I think they have more upscale plans than Metro SwimShop,” she said.
