A New Fish In Norwalk's Big Tank

The Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk names new director of education.

There is a new fish in Norwalk's big tank. The Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk has named Jamie Alonzo its new director of education. Alonzo comes to the city's aquarium with impressive credentials. He is a fisheries biologist and former educator at Yale University's Peabody Museum of Natural History.

"Jamie brings passion for the marine world, commitment to working with under served audiences, experience in a museum with a similar mission, a national network in the informal science education world, and a track record of successful fundraising for his program, especially in the federal grant sector," said Jennifer Herring, president to The Maritime Aquarium.

According to Herring, Alonzo takes over a program that presents marine education to more than 140,000 students a year. Before his time at Peabody in New Haven, Alonzo directed after school and summer academics for teens offered throughthe University of California-Santa Cruz. In addition, Alonzo was a salmon biologist for the National Marine Fisheries Service is Santa Cruz.
