Romeo, a discarded Doberman, gets a new chance at love

Meet Romeo, an almost 8 year old Doberman. This guy has had a rough life - living outside for the past year, he came to us very underweight, has sores and cysts throughout his body, urinating blood.

You could say, the eyes of an animal rescuer have seen a lot. And that would be true. The trick to helping the helpless animals in our midst is keeping our eyes focused on what is important and never looking away. And Romeo's case is no different - we could not look away.

Meet Romeo, an almost 8 year old Doberman who came to us this week. This guy has had a rough life - living outside for the past year, he came to us very underweight, has sores and cysts throughout his body, peeing blood. He visited our vet this morning where besides having cysts, sores and being underweight, it was discovered he has a heart murmur. Bloodwork was done and we will have results later this week. He also needs to visit the cardiologist for an ultrasound. He was never neutered by his previous owners, who could not longer keep him due to divorce. Once he gains weight, we will have that done of course.

We are thankful for this amazing dog's sake that their life changes brought him to us - we cannot imagine him living outside another day in this condition. No, he's not a Pit Bull - but he is a gentle giant who was in dire need of rescue - and he is now safe with us. We believe, when you love animals - you love ALL kinds.

Romeo weighs a mere 74 pounds and should weigh 110. He is now on a good quality diet, which we are carefully increasing over time so he can put the weight on safely. He will be rechecked and closely monitored throughout the process by our vets.
