U.S. Flags Half Staff on Sunday for Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week
Honoring our local police and public safety officers as Police Week starts today.
Today marks the beginning of an important day for police officers and public safety officers around the country. Police Week, which began in 1962 through a joint resolution in Congress, seeks to honor those who protect us in our communities each and every day.
Sunday, May 15, 2011 is Peace Officer Memorial Day. President Obama has ordered U.S. flags lowered to half staff to commemorate the occasion. Read his proclamation here.
At 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, the Norwalk Police Department will hold their annual memorial service at the on Monroe Street. The event is open to the public—join us if you are able. If not, take a moment to think of those who risk their lives for our safety.
