Meeting Young Leaders at the State Capitol

Today, I welcomed students from the Center for Youth Leadership at Brien McMahon High School to the Capitol and praised them for their efforts to raise awareness about child abuse.

The students made their annual trip to the state Capitol today to make a visual statement about the issue of child abuse in Connecticut. This year the students created garlands of origami cranes, each crane representing an abused child in Fairfield County, to promote their message of putting an end to child abuse.

These young women are the future leaders and problem-solvers of our country. I am so proud of these students for their hard work in raising awareness about a real problem affecting our society – child abuse.

Over the years, the Center for Youth Leadership has actively sought solutions to solve problems, such as hunger and domestic violence. They serve as true models for their peers as youth activists who demonstrate what it takes to make a difference in their community.

The students were introduced in the House and Senate, where they received a warm welcome. Gov. Dannel. P. Malloy also took time out of his busy schedule to meet with the young women and thank them for their hard work.
