East Rocks Road Bridge Re-Opens

Opening of the East Rocks Road Bridge

Tired of the detours? So are a lot of people. Thankfully, that will come to an end on the eve of Thanksgiving.

Mayor Richard Moccia and I announced the East Rocks Road bridge over the Merritt Parkway will be officially open to traffic on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Work will continue under the bridge until April, but that will not affect traffic above.

According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the project involves the replacement of the arched portion of the structure and rehabilitation of other portions of the bridge. The project resulted in the closure of East Rocks Road, between Granite Drive and Ox Yoke Lane.

The Federal Highway Administration states that roughly 1,600 cars pass over the bridge daily. Prior to work being performed, the condition of the substructure was considered satisfactory while the condition of the superstructure was poor.

The cost of the project is $4,768,001.
