The Cartoonists of Silvermine: Past and Present

"The Cartoonists of Silvermine: Past and Present” is an historical retrospective exhibiting nearly seventy reproductions of seventeen cartoonists who at one time worked and/or lived in Silvermine, from 1900 though the present. The exhibition will take place in the front gallery of Timeless Treasures Antiques located in the Historic Silvermine Tavern Country Store at 193 Perry Avenue in the Silvermine section of Norwalk. Proprietors Tom and Helen Olson are opening the gallery to the public on the dates posted only. The Norwalk Association of Silvermine Homeowners, is sponsor of the Exhibition.

Come and learn how Johnny Mouse, a cartoon (circa 1912-1914) by Clifton Meek, inspired Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse, see the early comics strips of Johnny Gruelle (one containing the seeds of Raggedy Ann), and view the Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoons of Matt Davies. A number of the images exhibited reference Silvermine. Works by Silvermine’s present day cartoonists Brian Walker (Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois) and Mary Anne Case (Memory Lane, editorial cartoons and caricatures) are featured.
