Sherry Winston Trio

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will kick off its 2011 Music/Entertainment series with the Sherry Winston Trio on July 15, 2011, 8-10 p.m. The evening will be sponsored by the Xerox Foundation.

Ms. Winston has had the honor of performing at the White House and for two U.S. presidents, William J. Clinton and George H.W. Bush, and has played at major theaters including Kennedy Center, Constitution Hall, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Apollo Theater, among others.

A child prodigy, Sherry Winston began her jazz career at the age of 11, and by the time she was a student at Howard University, she was already a nationally recognized jazz artist. Ms. Winston has been featured in the New York Times, as well as Ebony, Black Enterprise, Essence, and More magazines; she has been a performing artist on the Today Show and Emeril Live, and has co-hosted and performed on eight shows for BET TV.

Ms. Winston released five CD's with her first "Do It For Love," reaching number 1 on BRE and the Black Excellence Charts. "Love Madness" and "Life is Love & Love is You" was Top 10 in Billboard Magazine. Her third CD "Love Is…" won the WBLS "Quiet Storm" award and reached top 10 on "Radio and Records," an industry tip sheet.

As a performer Ms. Winston has opened for Sinbad, Gerald Albright, Ramsey Lewis, Peabo Bryson, Regina Belle, Grover Washington, jr., Dianne Reeves, Nelson Rangell, Ronnie Laws, Chaka Kahn, and many others.

Ms. Winston is also a successful promoter and has worked as Director of Jazz Promotion at Columbia, Arista, GRP, and Elektra Records. She has promoted such well-known artists as Kenny G, Grover Washington, jr., Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Harry Connick, jr., and Nancy Wilson, to name a few.

The LMMM Music/Entertainment Committee includes Richard Brescia, (Norwalk), Bruce Carter, (Fairfield), Andrew Garfunkel, (Norwalk), Julius Hayward, (Norwalk), Don Sappern, (Westport), and Susan Sweitzer, (New Canaan).
