Comedy, Drama, Folk, Jazz and R&B [Update]

This week's Patch picks for weekend entertainment include a partying place, headliner comedy, Black history and lots o' sax.

1.  Mardi Gras Party

  • Where: Georgetown Saloon 8 Main Street (junction of routes 107/57)

  • Why go: River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs bring their Cajun-meets-rock-R&B sound for this colorful celebration. Special menu and bar selections will be added for this occasion that hails from the Deep South. Call (203) 544-8003 for more information.

2. “Saxology”

  • Why go: In her one-woman show honoring Black History Month, actor Kimberly Wilson takes on numerous characters in “A Journey… By Kimberly Wilson,” starting with her depiction of a West African tribal queen kidnapped and enslaved, and then up to modern times, as Patch described here

Live Pop/Folk Music

  • Where:SoNo Caffeine Coffee and Chocolate Lounge   133 Washington St., South Norwalk
  • When:  Friday, 8-10 p.m.
  • Why go: Combine the sounds of singer/songwriter Kristen Graves with your favorite beverage tributes to caffeine, a display of dessert deliciousness and daily menu of wraps, paninis and more.  The nationally touring artist’s bio spells it out: “… a voice that commands attention, lyrics that catch your heart, and melodies that stay with the listener long after the evening ends… Picture an energetic Sarah McLachlan, or Tracy Chapman with a pop edge.”

 Comedian Kathleen Madigan

  • Where:  Fairfield University’s Quick Center or the Arts
  • When: Friday, 8 p.m.
  • Why go: Madigan, an award-winning comedian, has appeared on the top late night talk shows, among other programs, and currently has a new Showtime special, “Gone Madigan.” She has also recently entertained in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of a USO holiday tour.
