The Weir Farm Art Center, in cooperation with Weir Farm National Historic Site and with support from The Wilton Bank, will present its 16th annual outdoor concert, "Jazz in the Garden," featuring the Brubeck Brothers Quartet on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet, with Chris Brubeck on bass and trombone, Dan Brubeck on drums, Chuck Lamb on keyboard and Mike DeMicco on guitar, return to Weir Farm National Historic Site where they will play their style of modern jazz. Recent appearances include the Newport Jazz Festival (in near-hurricane conditions!), Spokane, Wash. with the Spokane Symphony; the Britt Festival in Oregon where they shared the bill with Bela Fleck; the Wine and Jazz Festival in Dubrovnik, Croatia; and the Cazenovia Festival along with famed New Orleans pianist Henry Butler.  After “Jazz in the Garden,” the group heads to Guatemala City to play at Guatemala’s premiere jazz festival. In November, Dan and Chris again join up with brother Darius in England for their second annual extended tour of the UK and Poland.

In addition to his tours with The Brubeck Brothers Quartet and Triple Play, Chris continues to be in demand as a composer.  His chamber piece, Danza del Soul, has been released on cd by Reference Recordings. His most recent concerto, Travels in Time for Three, for the popular group Time for Three, continues to receive standing ovations and rave reviews wherever it’s performed and will receive its New York premiere at Carnegie Hall March 8 with the Boston Pops.  Chris is now working on a commission for narrator and orchestra entitled “Roosevelt in Cowboy Land” which premieres in Bismarck, N.D. in October and will be performed the following week at the International Roosevelt Symposium.

Commenting on the Weir Farm National Historic Site concert, Chris Brubeck said, “Weir Farm is gorgeous on a beautiful sunny day and still has a lot to offer even when the weather isn’t cooperating. One of our favorite things for the band when we play at Weir Farm is to look out and see the younger members of the audience having such a great time, dancing, playing with balloons and just having fun. These kids are the jazz audiences of the future and we know that this is a good opportunity for them to be exposed to America’s art form.”

Charles Burlingham, Jr., President of the WFAC Board of Trustees, said, “This annual event in the wonderful landscape made famous by J. Alden Weir and other important American Impressionist painters, has helped put Weir Farm on the regional jazz map. We are delighted to be working with the National Park Service as co-hosts and The Wilton Bank as sponsor.”
