The UBS Parade Spectacular brings 18 "colossal balloons," a dozen bands, dance groups, performers and clowns to fill the streets of Stamford just in time for Thanksgiving.
Thanks to Stamford's status as a "Green City," the environmentally-conscious Lorax will be appearing this year for the first time, who can be seen making his debut in Stamford Patch's preview of the event.
Here's a breakdown of everything else you need to know if you're coming to the parade this weekend. And make sure, if you are heading to the parade, you share all your great photos with Stamford Patch. You can just upload them right up top and share your great experience with everyone!
The parade actually takes place Sunday, but the festivities really begin Saturday afternoon. Starting at 3 p.m., the public can head to Summer and Hoyt streets to watch all the characters for the balloon parade being inflated.
On Sunday, starting at 12 noon, the parade steps off where the balloons were blown up, at the intersection of Summer St. and Hoyt St., and travels south down Summer towards Broad St., where the parade hangs a left then turns right onto Atlantic St. and following it down to a review stage at Tresser Boulevard and ending on Federal Street.
There will be free parking at Landmark Square, enter by using the westbound Broad St. entrance. Additional parking is available at the Stamford Town Center for those entering before 11 a.m. by entering off the Tresser Blvd. entrance. Here is a PDF map of all the other parking garages available throughout downtown.
A First Aid station will be located on Bedford St. jut north of the parade route. This will also be the location lost children will be brought should they become separated form their parents.
Eats Around Town:
There are 200,000 people expected to come into Stamford for the event from all over, more than double last year's crowd. A list of all the restaurants that will be participating in the day, including a list of the restaurants considered "Kid Friendly," can be found in this PDF.
