Redding Resident of the Week: Jessica Drew

This week's Redding Resident once had a passion for dancing her way through life.

Name: Jessica Drew

Age: 20

Occupation: Cashier at the .

Tell us a little about yourself:

I was born at Norwalk Hosipital. My parents own a mattress company in Norwalk. I had a brother, Brian Drew, who died last year. Brian and I both went to . He graduated in 2007 and I graduated in 2009. He played football and I was a cheerleeder. I never got to cheerlead for him because he graduated before I started cheerleading. I used to dance. I danced from the time I was 3-years-old until last year. I did tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballett, lyric, lyric-jazz and company. Company is something that you have to be invited into, in order to be a part of. I used to dance at Hot Shoes in Ridgefield.

How long have you lived in Redding?

I've lived here my entire life—for 20 years.

What is your favorite aspect of Redding?

I like the Redding Ridge Market. I like people from Redding and Easton more than I like people from other towns. They are more relaxed. I live on the West Redding-Ridgefield line and people in Redding know each other better than people in Ridgefield do. I know a lot of kids in grades that were a few years above me and a few years below me. You don't see that in Ridgefield. A lot of my friends still live around here. I am a student at Western Connecticut State University and I am undecided in terms of what my major will be.

What are some interests that you may pursue with a potential future career?

I am interested in interior design, but Western Connecticut State University doesn't offer that as a major.

What is your best memory in Redding?

Graduating from Joel Barlow High School was my best memory — I didn't have to go to school anymore. I got a little sad afterwards though because I don't get to see all of my friends as much as I used to anymore. I was excited and anxious that day and I went out to dinner with my family afterwards.

What do you do for fun in Redding?

During the school year I still go back to the Joel Barlow soccer and football games. I go to and . I bring my two golden retrievers with me when I go there. I also hang out at the Redding Ridge Market a lot with my friends.
