Norwalk Community Health Center Hires New Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Katherine Golar brings innovative approach to medicine

The Norwalk Community Health Center (NCHC) is getting a new Chief Medical Officer and Adult Medicine. Dr. Katherine Golar, formerly the Chief Medical Officer at the Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center based in Brooklyn, New York, has been appointed to head direct patient care at NCHC.

Her experience in linking primary care to mental health and social services is part of the innovative approach Golar has been noted for.  She has been a participant and group leader in the University of Massachusetts’ Teaching of Tomorrow Program, an innovative program designed to facilitate the development of a more humanistic and effective medical education process. She has co-hosted a weekly radio show on Integrative Healing on WWRL 1600 AM. The show’s focus on presenting information on conventional and alternative approaches to health care should fit right into Norwalk’s strong community of alternative health practitioners.

In a statement, NCHC Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Cross said, “Dr. Golar will help the Norwalk Community Health Center continue to reach the national standards of quality medical care put forward by the Federal Government.  She will also work closely with Norwalk Hospital to coordinate care with our patients.  And, moving forward, Dr. Golar will be instrumental in the development of additional clinical programs in the years ahead.”

Golar also said in the statement that she is "a huge proponent of community health centers.  I believe that all people should have one place where they can access care in a variety of ways because health is more than just the absence of disease; it encompasses both the physical and nonphysical:  mind, body, spirit, nutrition, exercise – a whole life plan.”

NCHC is located at 120 Connecticut Avenue at 120 Connecticut Avenue and is open by appointment Monday through Friday and on Saturday mornings.  For more information or to make an appointment, call (203) 899-1770.
