More Family-Friendly Events Than You'll Ever Get To

This planner, for the week of Feb. 23-March 2, is chock-full of events.

There's no excuse to be bored this week! So many great activities and events are taking place that our planner features more than the usual five suggestions.

First, here are a few reminders:  Through Feb. 25,  is offering free crafts daily from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Pump It Up is featuring extra pop in play times and a Kids' Night Out (see their calendar here.), and  is holding "Travel to Haiti" workshops daily from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m.

• BEACH WEEK AT THE WILTON LIBRARY

Where/When: Wilton Children’s Library, Thursday, Feb. 24, Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26

Why Go: If you weren't able to actually vacation at the beach this February, the Wilton Library may be offering just the dose of sunsine you need. Stop in for  beach-themed crafts on Thursday, beach-themed movies on Friday, and an actual luau on Saturday. I don’t know about you, but as I look out at my still snow-encrusted yard, anything with the word “beach” in it sounds dreamy!

Pricing: Free

 

• MEET CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG

Where/When: , Saturday, Feb. 26, 11 a.m.

Why Go: Drop in for free storytime and a chance to meet Clifford. Talk about bringing the book to life!  

Pricing: Free

 

 WINTER WONDERLAND CHILDREN’S BALL

Where/When: Stepping Stones Museum, Saturday, Feb. 26, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

Why Go: Stepping Stones encourages you to come and “be enchanted.”  Activities planned for this magical evening include ballroom dancing, make your own crown and wand, snowman bowling, and more.  You must register here  in advance. 

Pricing: $10 per person for members, $12 for non-members (that includes admission to the museum)

 

• KATE MCDONNELL AT THE GOOD FOLKS COFFEE HOUSE

Where/When: Fellowship Hall of the , Saturday, Feb. 26, Doors open at 7:30 p.m., Music starts at 8 p.m.

Why Go:  According to the Coffee House’s web Site, "Come Hear—Come Eat—Come Enjoy!  Good Folk— Good Food—Great Music!"

Pricing: Adult Donations:  $25, Children 7-12 half price, Under 7 free

 

• RESTAURANT WEEK IN WESTPORT AND STAMFORD

Where/When: Restaurants all over Westport and Stamford, Sunday Feb. 27 through Saturday, March 5

Why Go: With so many restaurants offering  a special prix fixe lunch and dinner menu, this is a great week to try a new place. Click here to find out more about restaurant week, including a list of participating restaurants and menus.

Pricing:  Price Points (for a minimum of 3 courses)—Lunch: $10.11 or $15.11  Dinner: $20.11 or $30.11

 

HAPPENINGS:

 If ever there were a weekend to visit the Aquarium, this is it! They have so much going on that it seemed unfair to mention only one of their events.  

Don't forget that their "Touch a Shark" exhibit ends on the 27th. This is your last week to experience what touching a real, live nurse shark feels like!

Here are two more of the events taking place at the aquarium:

• TRON LEGACY

Where/When: Maritime Aquarium, Imax Theater, 6:45 p.m. daily, 9:15 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, through March 13

Why Go: Aquarium's marking director, Chris Loynd, says that the “The sets and action and special effects were made to be seen in IMAX.”  The press release asks that you “Disappear with Jeff Bridges into an amazing digital universe full of cyber beauty—and peril." Pricing: $11.50 for adults, $10.56 for seniors, $9.50 for children 2-12 (Aquarium members receive $1 discounts)

• CREATURE CRUISES

Where/When: Maritime Aquarium and Long Island Sound, Saturday, February 26 at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.

Why Go: According to the Aquarium web Site, this cruise gives you a chance to “Observe science in action, and have a memorable experience at the same time!” If you’re lucky, you’ll even spot some seals. Purchase tickets or check out a movie clip of seals on Long Island Sound here.

Pricing: $20.50 ($18.50 for members)
