Five Years in the Shelter and Counting

Francois, covered in vomit, was left tied to a pole outside PAWS of Norwalk. That was five years ago. Today this bright playful dog is a staff favorite who gets along with people and other dogs.

Francois, as in "King Francois," is nothing short of regal despite the circumstances of his arrival at PAWS of Norwalk five years ago. Francois was covered in vomit and left tied to a pole outside the shelter on Main Ave., just south of the DMV, when staff discovered him.

Fast forward five years. Francois loves taking walks with his friends at the shelter and playing fetch. He can even grab up to three tennis balls at one time. And though he can be goofy and loves to play, there is something regal about Francois' demeanor. At 8-years old, Francois is polite, reserved and doesn't come on too strong when he first meets you.

"He is quiet, calm and laid back," said Michelle Rinaldi, shelter director. "He enjoys other dogs like himself. Peaceable, calm dogs." According to Rinaldi, the kennel manager at PAWS, Jackie De Vidas, has a special rapport with Francois, and has watched him over the years mature and learn a list of tricks.

But Francois likes people of all ages and has become a staff and volunteer favorite at PAWS. He walks nicely on a leash and loves his walks as much as he loves to play. He plays well with other dogs too. This is why the folks at PAWS are just so surprised he's still at the shelter.

Francois has mad skills, according to the folks at PAWS. He can perform sit, lay down and roll over. He will give you his paw if you ask. He is so bright and loves to please people.

Please consider a visit to PAWS to meet Francois or any of the dogs or cats on their website. Five years is a very long time for a dog to be in a shelter even if he is spoiled and loved there.

If you aren't in a position to adopt a dog, please share Francois' story on Facebook with your friends and family. Sharing helps to increase the chance that this regal-looking dog will find his forever home.
