Featured Adoptable Dogs: Ollie, Sugar Bear and Snoopy

Please take a look at these three dogs who are looking for homes and share their stories with all the dog lovers you know.

This week we feature three dogs who deserve a second look and whose rescuers are committed to finding them forever homes.

Ollie

Still just a puppy, Ollie was about 5 months old when he was surrendered to Stamford Shelter in May. According to "Outreach to Pets in Need" (OPIN), Ollie is as sweet as can be, loves everyone and is a cutie!

Ollie weighs 38 lbs and is 16 inches in shoulder height. They estimate that he will be a medium-sized dog when fully grown. OPIN is working with the one issue Ollie does have, and that is his food aggression.

Since Ollie is very young, OPIN's trainer believes this can be corrected easily with proper training. But, for this reason, OPIN does not want to place him with small children until he learns his manners. Otherwise, he's the perfect family pet.

OPIN invites you to come down to meet Ollie! The Stamford Shelter is open 7 days a week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and late on Wednesday evenings (due to OPIN's free dog training at 6:30 pm).

It is not necessary to make an appointment. For more information to www.opinpets.org, or email OPIN at outreach@opinpets.org.

Sugar Bear

Kayte Zowine of Project Precious Rescue asks everyone to please consider Sugar Bear or at least share his story. Sharing the story link, giving a like on Facebook or Tweeting certainly adds up and make a big difference.

Zowine, who was featured in a Patch story "Life After Dog Fighting," goes to bat for dogs who have defied the odds. Here is the story of Sugar Bear as told by Kayte:

"Sugar Bear was pulled from a high kill shelter (NYACC) minutes before his time was up. Literally, I was waiting for someone else to take him and no one stepped up so now he's at my house...We think he's a mastiff/bully mix, about 80 lbs with a terrible home crop job to his poor ears. He's about 5 years old. Totally potty trained. Knows sit, down, stay, paw, high five. Reeeeeeally loves people, even kids."

Zowine added that Sugar Bear does not like cats, and though he tolerates dogs near his size, but really wants to be an only pet.

Zowine described recently getting home after a family visit out of state. "When I returned he launched himself into my arms and hugged me. Actually squeezed me and cried little puppy cries. I picture him with a quiet couple who will let him sleep on the couch, sit at their feet at the table, and snuggle freely. He is an angel," Zowine said.

Snoopy

Snoopy is available for adoption from Adopt-A-Dog just over the Greenwich line in Armonk, NY. She is considered special needs, as she (and her other 5 siblings) are prone to seizures.  All came from a home that was being foreclosed and the owner was doing the best she could afford for them.

Snoopy is a lovable, 20 lbs, energetic girl.  Around 7 year old, she could do well in a home with older children and possibly another dog.
