5 Things You Need to Know About Norwalk: April 7

Here is your guide to free movies, free tax help, and more.

  1. Norwalk Community College is featuring the 1975 film Nashville as their movie of the month tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the East Campus Forum Theater. This screening is free and open to the public. According to NCC’s website, Nashville "is considered by many to be director - Robert Altman’s (M.A.S.H., McCabe and Mrs. Miller, The Long Goodbye, The Player) finest film.  This is a brilliant mosaic of American life as seen through 24 characters involved in a political rally in Nashville.”
  2. April 15 is right around the corner, but there is no reason to panic. Free help is on hand to assist you in preparing your taxes. Through tax season, tax aide counselors are available at the South Norwalk Branch Library Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.. You’ll also find counselors at the Norwalk Public Library Thursdays from 3 .m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays through from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. These counselors are provided by the AARP, but they are available to anyone on a first come, first served basis. Neon also offers free tax preparation to households with an income of less than $49,000.
  3. Tomorrow is opening day for Lockwood-Matthews Mansion. This year the museum is featuring "Mansion Fragments: Innovations in Architecture, Design, and Technology from the Civil War Era." For a taste of the exhibit, check out , and learn more about the exhibit .
  4. If you’re looking to get in shape this year, the Lightfoot Running Club may be right for you. Their next race is a Mother’s Day 10K, which starts and finishes at Calf Pasture Beach, but their regular summer series will kick off with a 3 mile race in June and culminate in a half marathon in September.   5. Note that the YMCA’s Fitness Center will be closed this coming Monday, April 11.
