YWCA Parent Awareness Screens Two Films

YWCA Parent Awareness, a family-focused program that provides support and education to parents and children in order to encourage the healthy, positive development of youth and families, is pleased to announce the upcoming screening of two movies; “Split: Divorce through Kids’ Eyes” and “What Every Girl Wants to Know”.

“Split: Divorce Through Kids' Eyes”, co-sponsored by the Darien Library, will be screened and followed by a discussion on Tuesday, April 29th from 7 to 8:30pm at the Darien Library Community Room at 1441 Post Road. This documentary gives the child's perspective on divorce and the film presents a powerful opportunity for parents to feel what the children are going through. Split features a diverse group of children, ranging from ages 6 to 12, from divorced families, sharing honestly about their experiences. Film running time is 28 minutes and will be followed by a facilitated discussion by Ed Moran, LCSW, a Senior Social Worker and Community Educator at Family Centers in Darien.

“What Every Girl Wants to Know” with Diane Frankel-Gramelis, MS, CCE, and co-sponsored by Holmes Elementary School, will be screened on Thursday, May 1st from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Darien Depot at 25 Heights Road. Diane Frankel-Gramelis, MS, CCE, will lead a discussion for mothers and daughters on the physical and emotional changes of puberty. In a straightforward and entertaining manner, Frankel-Gramelis will teach girls what they can expect in the future. This workshop will also provide a starting point for further discussions with daughters about this sensitive topic. Diane Frankel-Gramelis earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Southern Connecticut State University.  She returned to SCSU as a part-time health educator where she presents workshops on stress reduction and health-related strategies. She is currently the Director of Education at Milford Hospital where she guides and mentors student interns. Under her leadership, the department provides community health screenings, educational programs, support groups, fitness activities and wellness lectures directed towards improving the quality of health of those in our community.
