Presentation on Home Energy Saving Program Coming to Norwalk

On Tuesday, April 29, the Norwalk Mayor’s Energy and Environment Task Force will host “Saving Green By Going Green: Home Energy Savings in Norwalk,” a presentation on residential energy saving programs offered through Energize Connecticut.  The event will kick-off the task force’s upcoming energy educational series and will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Norwalk City Hall, located at 125 East Avenue. It is free of charge and open to the public.

Energy specialists Next Step Living and New England Smart Energy will discuss the popular residential program Home Energy Solutions℠ (HES), designed to help people save money on their energy bills.

For those who sign up, CL&P-authorized energy specialists will come to your home or apartment and provide energy improvement services which include locating and professionally sealing critical air leaks, replacing incandescent lights with energy-saving bulbs and insulating hot water pipes. While these services are valued at an average of $1,000, the cost for the HES service is only $75 for homes heating with electricity or natural gas, $99 for homes heating with fuel oil and propane, and is free for those who meet income eligibility guidelines.

Sagewell, Inc. will also present participants with thermal images of their homes taken during the winter months to identify hidden places where heat escapes through walls, windows, doors and attics.

People who attend will also have the opportunity to learn more about converting to natural gas, or installing solar panels to generate electricity or hot water, and receive information on the available incentives, rebates and financing programs offered through Energize Connecticut and the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA).

Additionally, the event will introduce residents to the Clean Energy Communities program, an Energize Connecticut initiative that incentivizes municipalities to support energy efficiency and renewable energy. Norwalk signed the Clean Energy Communities pledge in February 2014.
