Norwalk River Rowing Lights It Up at Independence Day Regatta

Over the Independence Day week-end Norwalk River Rowing’s summer youth racing teams raced in the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia, which boasted 1,048 entries from 91 clubs and organizations.  The team returned to the Norwalk River with two firsts and two thirds.

Norwalk resident and rising senior Amelia Ornato took third out of a field of fifteen in the girls’ single.  All of the remaining three top-three Norwalk River Rowing finishes were contributed by Kris Petreski and Liam McDonough in the 16 and under races.  Their double took first, besting the second-place boat by nearly 16 seconds.  In the single event, Petreski took first and McDonough took third.  One other Norwalk River boat made it to finals, the junior double, and finished fourth, 1.5 seconds behind third.

Six additional Norwalk River Rowing boats made it to the semi-finals but did not advance to finals: a coxed four, a quad, two more singles and another double.  In all, 10 Norwalk River boats made it to semi-finals, half of those made it to finals, and four of those finished in the top three.
