Maggio and Mann Nominated to Run for Re-Election

Michelle Maggio and Sarah Mann today announced their plans to run for re-election to the Norwalk Common Council from District C, which includes East Norwalk. Councilwoman Maggio is running for re-election, having come into office in 2011. She is chair of the Health, Welfare and Public Safety Committee. Councilwoman Mann came into office upon the resignation of Joanne Romano.

“Responsible Leadership” is the theme of their joint campaign, said Maggio. “Sarah and I are focused on making our city a little bit better than we found it, leading the way towards making improvements for all Norwalkers, responsibly.” Maggio is the owner of Mike’s Deli in East Norwalk. Her husband Jon is a Captain in the Norwalk Fire Department. The Councilwoman’s eldest son will be entering his senior year at Roger Williams University, her two middle children attend Norwalk Public Schools and her youngest son attends Carousel Preschool.

Councilwoman Mann serves on the Ordinance, Health, Welfare and Public Safety, Land Use and Personnel Committees. She previously was a member of the Junior League, and served on the Board of the United Way, and was a member of the Norwalk Mentor Program. Additionally, Councilwoman Mann has served as President of the East Norwalk Improvement Association, which oversees the operations of the East Norwalk Library. Among the issues Maggio has championed in her first 18 months on the council have advocacy for safer pedestrian crossings and access, both in East Norwalk and on State Roadways, as well as campaigning against the governor’s mandated consolidation of the Regional Planning Agency. She is a member of the Connecticut Early Childhood Education Cabinet and has supported appropriate investment in our schools on the state and local level, the results of which was the fully funded 2013 Norwalk Public Schools budget. She has also served on the Public Works, Recreation and Parks, and Personnel Committees of the Common Council.

“Sarah and I are very different in some ways, which makes us an even more powerful team. We constantly surprise each other and always enjoy working together. In an area that can be a little male dominated, we have managed to thrive,” Maggio added. Councilman Maggio is a Norwalk Native, having attended Norwalk Public Schools and is also a graduate of Norwalk High. She is a member of St. Thomas Church in East Norwalk.

Apart from her volunteer work, Councilwoman Mann has been focusing on Ordinance Development to protect citizens from noise pollution, irresponsible animal owners and housing blight. Originally from Illinois, after attending Nassau Community College, she and her husband of 34 years, Steven, have been Norwalk residents for 27 years. “Doing the right thing for the city and its citizens is my goal. Though this can be obscured by the politics and special interests, we need to commit to working with all our colleagues to ensure that Norwalk continues to remain on the right path. We can do this by funding our schools appropriately and maintaining our AAA bond rating."
