Cablevision’s Power to Learn Announces Sixth Annual “Hispanic Heritage Month” Student Essay Contest in partnership with Olympusat

Students in Grades 6 through 12 Are Encouraged to Reflect on

‘What Latino They Would Choose to Spend a Day With and Why’

Bethpage, NY, October 2, 2013 – In recognition of the wide-ranging influence that Latinos have on our culture, Cablevision’s Power to Learn and Olympusat, Inc. are sponsoring the “Hispanic Heritage Month” essay contest for the sixth consecutive year.  The contest for middle- (grades 6 through 8) and high-school students (grades 9 through 12) provides an opportunity for students to reflect on the rich heritage of Hispanic Americans.  This year’s essay question is: “Name a Latino, past or present, with whom you would choose to spend a day and explain why.”

“Cablevision is delighted to sponsor its Hispanic Heritage Month student essay contest for the sixth consecutive year,” said Cablevision Vice President of Public Affairs Jen Ostrager.  “Power to Learn is proud to promote the Hispanic community’s diverse cultural heritage.”

Olympusat’s Senior Vice President of Distribution, Nick Febrizio said, “Once again, Olympusat is pleased to partner with Cablevision on this educational initiative that encourages students to explore the rich history and cultural traditions of Latinos.  It also provides students with an opportunity to win a terrific prize and recognition within their community and among their peers.  We look forward to this year’s entries.”

All essays must be submitted in English either through the Power to Learn web site www.powertolearn.com, mailed to Cablevision: Attention Power to Learn, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714 or faxed to 516-803-2716.  Entries will be accepted from September 15 through November 1 and cannot exceed 500 words.  Four winners in both the middle- and the high-school grade levels will be selected and announced in December 2013.  Prizes include a $2,500 cash scholarship (grand prize), an Apple iPad (first prize), a laptop computer (second prize) and a Kindle Fire (third prize).  Olympusat Inc. is the provider of such Spanish language channels as Latele Novela, ¡Sorpresa!, Momentum, CubaPlay and TV Chile, all available on Optimum TV en Español programming service.
